Our History

Founded in 1991 in Upper Mount St. out of a larger firm, Gartlan Furey LLP has always been a niche practice focusing particularly on Property, Lending and Private Client. The firm grew and moved to Fitzwilliam Square in 2005 after which it refocused on its core practice areas of Residential Property, Commercial Property and Lending whilst developing additional practice areas in Wills, Trusts and Estates and Dispute Resolution to meet the needs of its clients. In 2011 we bolstered our Private Client practice areas through the addition of a leading team from a ‘Big Five’ law firm.

The firm now boasts decades of experience across each of its practice areas of Property, Lending, Wills, Estates & Trusts and Dispute Resolution and is ideally positioned to service the particular needs of our clients.  We attract and retain the highest calibre people in each of our chosen practice areas and have a strong focus on developing our people. In 2013 we were awarded Lexcel accreditation by the UK Law society for the highest standards in all aspects of the management of our firm and have continued to meet and exceed these standards ever since.

With effect from June 7th 2022 Gartlan Furey LLP has been authorised by the Legal Services Regulatory Authority pursuant to section 125 of the Legal Services Regulatory Act 2015 to operate as a Limited Liability Partnership.

The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law

The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (TIAETL) was founded in 1975. Presently, Academicians concentrate on the analysis of the substantive requirements and the tax consequences of the transfer of wealth, be it during lifetime or at death. In that regard, the Academy now studies the entities through which wealth is transferred, including but not limited to corporations, partnerships, common law trusts, statutory trusts, foundations and both common law and civil law estates. It studies the effect of marriage on property rights and the impact of divorce on property held by the spouses or either of them at the termination of marriage.

The Academy has members who practice or offices in 41 countries. Membership is by invitation only and highly selective.
