Lexcel is the U.K. Law Society’s legal practice quality mark promoting a quality management approach for client service and how to run a legal practice. It provides a flexible, supportive management framework to help practices develop consistent operational efficiencies and client services, manage risk effectively and reduce costs.

Lexcel sets the required Standard in seven different areas: structure and strategy, financial management, information management, people management, risk management, client care, file and case management. Lexcel scheme rules outline the design, principles and governance processes of the scheme.

Practices and organisations accredited against the Standard have the flexibility to implement procedures that are appropriate to their circumstances.

Gartlan Furey is one of only a handful of Lexcel approved Irish firms. It was first awarded to the firm in March 2013 and has been awarded it each year since following assessment.

STEP is a unique professional body providing members with a local, national and international learning and business network.

• STEP provides education, training, representation and networking for its members, who are professionals specialising in trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related taxes. Members advise clients on the broad business of the management of personal finance.
• Full members of STEP are the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates.
• STEP is a company limited by guarantee registered in the UK and has branches in many countries with a total membership of over 17,500.
• STEP Ireland was formed in October 1998 and is the Irish Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
• Membership of STEP Ireland is comprised of some of the most experienced and senior Trust and Estate practitioners in Ireland who come from a variety of professional backgrounds. We include members from the legal, accountancy, tax, banking, pension and insurance professions. Any full member is authorised to use the designation TEP and be described as a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner.

The Loan Market Association (LMA) has as its key objective improving liquidity, efficiency and transparency in the primary and secondary syndicated loan markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). By establishing sound, widely accepted market practice, the LMA seeks to promote the syndicated loan as one of the key debt products available to borrowers across the region. The LMA works with lenders, law firms, borrowers and regulators to educate the market about the benefits of the syndicated loan product, and to remove barriers to entry for new participants. Since the establishment of the LMA in 1996, our membership has grown steadily and currently stands at over 630 organisations covering in excess of 60 nationalities, comprising commercial and investment banks, institutional investors, law firms, service providers and rating agencies.

ISIP was established in 2004 to create a forum to enhance knowledge and expertise of its members and to allow members to share experiences between those accountants and lawyers in Ireland who specialise in turn-around and insolvency and among practitioners working in the insolvency profession in Ireland.

The Dublin Solicitors Bar Association (“DSBA”) is the largest Bar Association in Ireland, having been established in 1935. It is a representational and not a regulatory organisation existing to promote the welfare and interests of its members, who are Solicitors.

The DSBA has already launched several highly regarded and well received precedent publications on topics including Solicitors Partnerships, Residential Tennancies, Share Purchase and Sale Agreements and Family Law and Separation. All these are in constant and daily use by practitioners. The DSBA is committed to providing conferences and seminars to meet the ongoing educational and information needs of its members and the public.

Solicitors for the Elderly Ireland is an independent national association of solicitors and barristers concerned with improving the availability and delivery of specialist legal advice to older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.

• We are a part of Solicitors for the Elderly founded in the UK in 1999.
• We strive to build on our member’s expertise through training, setting good practice standards and through our information network.
• All our members agree to follow our code of conduct.
• We aim to create a positive public awareness of the legal issues specific to older or vulnerable people and of their fundamental right to that specialist legal knowledge.
• Our solicitors, Stephen Hamilton and Sarah Cox, were both founding members of Solicitors for the Elderly Ireland.

The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (TIAETL) was founded in 1975. Presently, Academicians concentrate on the analysis of the substantive requirements and the tax consequences of the transfer of wealth, be it during lifetime or at death. In that regard, the Academy now studies the entities through which wealth is transferred, including but not limited to corporations, partnerships, common law trusts, statutory trusts, foundations and both common law and civil law estates. It studies the effect of marriage on property rights and the impact of divorce on property held by the spouses or either of them at the termination of marriage.

The Academy has members who practice or offices in 41 countries. Membership is by invitation only and highly selective.
